Holocell is designed for lab environments. The heated bath had to be small enough to fit inside a sterile cabinet. This led to the decision to split the device into two: the small prism unit (left) and the bigger generator unit (right).
The prism unit houses a heated bath — anodized and milled from a single block of aluminium — and can assemble cell cultures in any complex shape: Three orthogonal transducers create interfering pressure patterns in a small vial. This traps the cells in a pre‑computed form and is then fixed in position using UV light.
Both modules are connected in the back with three long cables: one for power, one for the high frequency signals and one for data. The latter transfers signals between the inputs and outputs and the processor in the generator unit.
On the back of the prism module is drain tap for when the heated bath needs to be refilled.
The generator unit houses a Siglent SDG2000X signal generator, a 30 watt, high frequency amplifier, and an industrial grade processor.
